I needed a little morning reading and up pops Dead in a Red Dress. Having just been in Santa Cruz, I understand the setting and "vibe." The story is well plotted and very entertaining with lots and lots of pretty sketchy characters and possible red herrings and plenty of development.Is it heavy? No.
Is it a good ready? very much so - a great lazy Sunday book
Would I recommend it? Absolutely!
I REALLY hope this becomes a serial - it would be great to follow Nancy and Robert.

I liked the characters and would like to see more of their adventures in crime solving. I also like re-visiting Santa Cruz. It's one of my favorite places. I see a bright future for these two writers. More please.
“Dead in a Red Dress” is a delightful murder mystery that takes place in beautiful Santa Cruz, CA. The story is filled with surprises and characters you can’t help but either fall in love with or hope they get what they have coming to them. I kept picturing this as the first episode in a PBS Masterpiece Mystery series. It’s a fun read and never disappoints.
Dead in a Red Dress is a briskly paced, above all sweet and knowing mystery story and a page-turner. (I read it at one sitting, and I don't even read the back of a Milk of Magnesia bottle in one sitting.) The good people--Nancy and Robert--who solve the mystery and save the day (and a number of little old ladies' nest eggs) are beautifully drawn. Something involving is happening on every page of this novel from the moment Nancy and her dog Togo set off on their morning walk along West Cliff Drive.

I loved this book. I also fell in love with the characters, Nancy and Robert. Having lived in and around Santa Cruz most of my life and attended UCSC, I found this book delightful. I found myself following Nancy and Robert around in very familiar haunts. I loved the way in which the characters were presented and developed. This book is well written with a few twists and a surprise ending. I am hoping this becomes a series. The only thing I would change would be Nancy's new found love interest's name to Arthur. Thank you for a most pleasant mystery.
